Hello all and welcome to the holiday installment of the City Career Services eNewsletter! With a new year about to begin, we wanted to take this opportunity to get in touch, share some tips and update you on the exciting things happening around CCS.

As we continue to find new ways to help you navigate your career path, we’re pleased to announce the addition of a new service – career coaching. The article below introduces the concept, explains how the service can assist you and includes a special offer for our readers.

It really has been a busy year for us! Outside of individual sessions, you may have seen us giving presentations at the Julliard School and the School of Visual Arts, or through our donated Career Packages for social and non-profit organizations’ special events. We visited Some of the Girls Anniversary Party, Keystone Rugby Club, Mary Kay Anniversary Party, National Association of Black Journalists, and Total Image Management Seminars.

If you haven't been in contact with us recently, now is the perfect time to connect, ask career-oriented questions and gain job search tools. In fact, getting in contact with other professionals is our New Year’s resolution challenge for all of you. Read on to find out how cover letters can help you meet that challenge.

We’re looking forward to an exciting year ahead and working with you to meet your goals.

Happy holidays,

How Coaching Helps You at Work

Trying to work through a challenging problem at work? Managing the biggest project of your career? Interested in moving up but running into roadblocks?

These are just a few of the career-related topics City Career Services and Kimberly Schneiderman can assist you with. As a graduate of the Leadership Coaching Academy’s Certified Leadership and Talent Management Coaching program, Kimberly has worked with entrepreneurs and managers who are tackling important issues like these in their careers:

  • Negotiating for a promotion – influencing how the new position is structured and remunerated,
  • Leading a team of diverse personalities and skill sets,
  • Managing the minute tasks of a project without losing focus on the company’s big picture,
  • Planning daily schedules and prioritizing tasks to avoid distractions, and
  • Setting up operations: policies, procedures, customer service standards, and divisions of labor.

In coaching sessions, Kimberly helped each client get past their individual roadblocks and lay out the required steps to achieve their goals. Other topics she has coached on include leadership, setting and achieving “big” goals, conflict management, and being “visible” to executive teams.

You can reap the same benefits these clients have in coaching sessions with Kimberly! Weekly meetings help ensure you stay focused and continue on the right path. The sessions also ensure all sides of a topic are explored and that you are choosing a path that is right for you…not just what “should” be done. Meetings are upbeat, focused on your strengths, and meant to be motivational and supportive – just what you need in this demanding world!

Special Offer!

Kimberly is offering an introductory coaching rate of $250/month with a three-month engagement for newsletter readers. Take advantage of this opportunity to overcome challenges with your career.

Cover Letters: They Aren't Just for Job Opportunities

To most, cover letters are associated with job advertisements. At City Career Services, we think about cover letters as having valuable uses far beyond a job search. For example, you can use a cover letter to make introductions and send invitations. With the new year just around the corner, we challenge you to expand the way you think about cover letters and resolve to start writing to others. You will find that the practice is an excellent networking tool and will pay off when you are writing traditional job-based letters. For a list of additional cover letter uses, read Kimberly’s recent Examiner.com article.

We want to know how you meet the challenge. Email CCS with cover letter success stories or how you approached using them in a different way.

You can read additional articles authored by Kimberly at Examiner.com and on the City Career Services website.
